She also serves on the board of the Traverse City Chamber of Commerce and is involved with various community initiatives, such as the Elk Skegemog Lakes Association, the Watershed Center of Grand Traverse Bay, Single MOMM, Mott Hospital in Ann Arbor, Detroit Swims, and Read to a Child.

On a personal note, Robin is married to Mark, and they are proud parents of four sons, all of whom have qualified for the Olympic Trials in swimming. Their son Peter is a three-time Olympian, boasting two gold and two bronze medals. The Vanderkaay family resides in the Elk Rapids area, where they enjoy a variety of outdoor activities, including swimming, skiing, biking, hiking, fishing, and golfing, all while appreciating the natural beauty of Michigan.
