Upon her father's retirement, her family settled in Corpus Christi, a decision she cherishes as it allowed her to establish deep roots in the community. Having been married for many years, she considers her spouse her closest confidant. In her leisure time, she enjoys gardening and maintaining her fish ponds, reflecting her commitment to cultivating both her home and her community.

Her leadership experience includes serving as the 61st president—and the first woman president—of the Corpus Christi Jaycees in 1989. She is a proud Jaycee Senator and Ambassador, embodying the organization's motto, "service to humanity is the best work of life." Additionally, she is a lifetime member of Texas Lions Camp and has contributed over five years to the board of Camp Fire USA. Currently, she is an active member of the Board of Directors for Big Brothers Big Sisters, the Navy League Lost Pet Hotline, and Dobie Haven, as well as a participant in the Coastal Bend Bays Foundation.
