During his tenure, he played a pivotal role in nearly $20 million worth of leasing and consulting projects for notable clients such as H&R Block and FTI Consulting. Additionally, he represented prominent landlords, including Vornado Realty Trust and PMI Companies, and was instrumental in marketing and leasing approximately 350,000 square feet of office space in downtown San Francisco. This experience laid a solid foundation for the professionalism he brings to every transaction.

After four years in the commercial sector, John chose to collaborate with his mother, Cia Townsend, shifting his focus to the residential market. Together, they established the Townsend & Townsend team. His expertise in market analytics and trends has significantly enhanced the successful business Cia had already developed. By merging quantitative data with Cia’s extensive market knowledge, they have fostered a highly efficient team dynamic. This synergy allows them to craft personalized real estate strategies, resulting in smoother and more transparent transactions for their clients.

A native of San Francisco, John married his partner Katie in 2010. The couple enjoys spending time outdoors with their Bernese Mountain dog, Charlie, taking walks at Crissy Field and enjoying weekend getaways to Tahoe. A former Division III lacrosse player at Gettysburg College, John has also served as the Defensive Coordinator for the men's lacrosse team at the University of California, Berkeley, and has coached at Stuart Hall in San Francisco.

In the past three years, Townsend & Townsend has experienced an impressive average annual sales growth of 30%, completing nearly $250 million in transactions. In March 2013, the team joined Pacific Union, further enhancing their market presence.
