Captain John "Alan" Holden is a distinguished real estate professional and the Broker/Owner of Alan Holden Vacations and RE/MAX at the Beach. A lifelong resident of Holden Beach, he is the first child born to a local family and represents the seventh generation of Holdens in the area. Alan and his brother, Lyn, have collectively called Holden Beach home for over 120 years. The legacy continues with Mayor Holden’s son, Shane, and his children, Curren, Morrea, and Kealani, who represent the eighth and ninth generations.

Alan's career began in education when he taught in Shallotte during the 1970s after graduating from Methodist College. However, as his seasonal businesses on the island flourished, he transitioned from teaching to entrepreneurship, ultimately focusing on real estate.

His prominent businesses today, Alan Holden Vacations and RE/MAX at the Beach, have established him as a key figure in the local real estate market. His professional accolades include induction into the North Carolina Realtors' Association Hall of Fame, the Re/Max Hall of Fame, and recognition with the North Carolina Realtors' Community Service Award.

In addition to his real estate expertise, Captain Holden holds a 100-ton license, showcasing his proficiency as a seaman. He actively participates in local fishing and competes in the Southern Kingfish Association Professional Tour with Fountain Boats.

In his professional capacity, Alan has held numerous leadership roles, including President of the South Brunswick Island Board of Realtors and the Brunswick County Association of Realtors. He was the founding President of the North Carolina Vacation Rental Managers' Association and served as a Governor for the North Carolina Association of Realtors Property Management Division. Additionally, he chaired the Professional Standards Committee for the North Carolina Association of Realtors and was selected by the National Association of Realtors to help establish the vacation property management division.
