About Alfred Flerlage

Nick Flerlage's upbringing on a tobacco farm in rural Southern Maryland profoundly influenced his life trajectory. As the youngest of five siblings, he was shaped by the values instilled by his father, a retired Army Sergeant who embraced the farming lifestyle, and his mother, a dedicated homemaker who managed both the household and their beloved mini Dachshunds. While tobacco was their primary crop, the family also cultivated corn, soybeans, hay, and maintained an expansive garden. Nick fondly recalls the hours spent on their Massey Ferguson tractors, engaged in the various stages of tobacco cultivation—from planting to curing. Those formative summer days on the farm instilled a strong work ethic that parallels his professional endeavors today.

At the age of 17, Nick faced a significant challenge when a motorcycle accident left him in traction for two months, followed by an additional two months in a body cast. This experience required him to relearn how to walk, teaching him resilience and determination. Shortly after his recovery, he left home to pursue his ambitions, ultimately earning a degree in Business Management from the University of Maryland, followed by an MBA from the R.H. Smith School of Business. His career began as a biologist at the National Institutes of Health, where he co-authored several articles in various biological journals.

Nick's entry into real estate was marked by a strong entrepreneurial spirit, albeit at an inopportune moment—just before the housing market downturn. While many were exiting the industry, he embraced the challenge, inspired by Warren Buffett's philosophy of swimming against the tide. This decision has since proven to be a pivotal one.

Today, Nick collaborates with his wife, Beth, with whom he has shared nearly 30 years of marriage. Together, they focus on assisting active professionals and retirees in finding or marketing homes that meet their evolving needs.
