It’s March 2020 and the world has literally shut down We were all stuck at home for weeks I was working a corporate job doing something I was good at I sat at my makeshift home office day after day finding myself thinking a lot more about how unfulfilling my job was I thought about the last 32 years of my life and the series of events that brought me to my current situations
My childhood was anything but normal I was born with a genetic bone condition called bilateral hip dysplasia Basically my hip joints did not grow inside the socket I spent most of my time in a doctor’s office on the surgery table or at home in a cast or brace recovering from one of the twenty plus surgeries I endured in the first 16 years of my life I have memories of my favorite nurses counselors and hospital staff that cared for me and let me stay in the TV room to watch Sleeping Beauty for the hundredth time during what was supposed to be nap time I knew even as a child that when I grew up I wanted to help and serve people I felt so grateful for every single person that helped me along my journey and I knew I wanted to give back in some way As a teen I thought mostly about becoming a doctor myself When I went to college I had decided to venture the world of psychology in an attempt to become a counselor for hospitalized children After all I knew what it was like to not have a normal childhood To have nurses as best friends miss so much school that you were basically home schooled And when you did get to go to school it was in a wheelchair or crutches
Life happened and took me on a whirlwind of drama instability & some not so good experiences I got married bought a house & had a baby by the ripe old age of 21 I thought I was doing everything ‘the right way’ From the outside it probably seemed like I had a great life At 23 I found myself divorced with a toddler and in a toxic and physically abusive relationship 6 years went by I was in and out of court hearings and even lost custody of my child for the longest 7 days of my life Trauma doesn’t begin to describe the aftermath of those 6 years Even though I was employed had my son and was able to (barely) financially support us without help but I was absolutely lost in life What did I do next I left Oklahoma I wanted a fresh start and chose Missouri to lay some new roots I left my friends my family people I never wanted to see again
Missouri was a breath of fresh air for me in the beginning I was employed doing something I was good at I was slowly making friends as was my little man Life was okay at best Here we are the world is shut down I’m depressed I’m miserable with my job realizing that the only good thing about working there was the insurance and the few acquaintances that I got along with The research began I literally typed in the search bar ‘jobs that help people ’ Several ideas came up but Real Estate Agent called to me I spent the next few days watching YouTube videos about people who got into the business what it was like & how they did it I made the leap on April 20th 2020 I bought the online courses and have since devoted my heart and soul into being and becoming the best version of myself every day
This life has taught me that anything is possible if I want it bad enough I’ve learned that my true passion is helping people I was lucky enough to find that passion within being a Realtor This wild ride of life has shown me that the trajectory of our lives can change in an instant Things don’t always go according to “plan” But big life changes can be manageable By creating a plan having the right support & tools anything is possible
