About Douglas Barber

Doug Barber has been a licensed real estate professional and REALTOR® in Colorado since 1975, when he began his career with The Rawhide Company REALTORS®, where he currently serves as President and Broker. His foundation in real estate was laid early on, as he assisted his father in the development and sale of properties in Colorado and Wyoming since the 1950s.

Barber earned a degree in Real Estate and Construction Management from the University of Denver in 1977. During his time at the university, he was the Charter President of Rho Epsilon, a professional fraternity focused on real estate. Although he was accepted to the Denver University Law School, he chose not to attend.

His commitment to ongoing education in real estate is evident through his numerous professional designations, including Certified Real Estate Brokerage Manager (CRB), Graduate Realtors Institute (GRI), Master of Real Estate (MRE), e-Pro (focused on technology), Residential Construction Certified (RCC), Real Estate Divorce Specialist (REDS), and Senior Real Estate Specialist (SRES). Additionally, he has pursued training in various residential and commercial investment areas and has completed over 70 hours of mediation training. As a member of the Mediation Association of Colorado, he specializes in real estate and contract dispute mediation, as well as real estate litigation consulting.

Barber has dedicated many years to leadership roles within the REALTOR® organization, having served as a Director for the Pikes Peak Colorado and National Associations of REALTORS®. His contributions include chairing numerous committees, and he has been a National Director on the Risk Management and Professional Standards committees. He was Chairman of the Board for the Pikes Peak Association in 2002-2003 and was honored as REALTOR® of the Year in 2004-2005. He also offers pro bono mediation and arbitration services for REALTOR® Associations.

In addition to his leadership roles, Barber teaches continuing education classes for REALTOR® Associations and real estate firms across the state. His courses cover a wide range of topics, including ethics, fair housing, negotiation, risk management, professional standards enforcement, contracts, survey issues, and water law, as well as the Colorado Division of Real Estate Annual Update class.

Though not currently licensed as a general contractor, Barber has extensive experience in general construction, including the development of custom homes. He has been involved in land subdivision development, contributing to the development of approximately 6,000 acres in Teller Park and El Paso Counties. He actively trains salespeople at Rawhide and specializes in the listing and sale of land and residential properties. His consulting services extend to real estate counseling, and he has significant experience serving on homeowner association boards and architectural review committees. Additionally, he has been qualified as an expert witness in real estate matters in various Colorado courts.

Barber has a long history of community service, including roles as a youth hockey coach, Boy Scouts leader, symphony volunteer, and supporter of Silver Key Senior Services. He has also taught for Project Business and testified at public hearings regarding land use requests. In 1985-1986, he was appointed Chair of the Black Forest Citizens Advisory Committee by the El Paso County Commissioners to revise and develop a County Land Use Master Plan for the Black Forest planning area.

An Eagle Scout, Doug enjoys a variety of activities, including travel, scuba diving, mountain climbing, flying, skiing, playing guitar, reading, and writing.
