About Heather Smith

With a career in real estate that began in Door County in 1994, this agent brings a unique blend of experience and passion to the industry. After completing her college education, she worked in the United States Senate in Washington, D.C., gaining invaluable insights into the workings of government. However, the fast-paced political environment prompted her to seek a more fulfilling path.

As a fifth-generation resident of Door County, she had longed to settle in this picturesque area, having moved 26 times during her childhood due to her father's military career. Her upbringing took her to diverse locations, including Hawaii, Alaska, Germany, California, Rhode Island, and Virginia. In 1992, she returned to Door County permanently and soon met her future husband, Jim Smith, a local attorney specializing in land use and real estate. Inspired by their discussions about the industry, she obtained both her real estate and broker's licenses simultaneously, marking the beginning of her dedicated career.

In addition to her real estate endeavors, she pursued legal studies for four years, earning her Juris Doctor (J.D.) from Purdue Global University’s Concord Law School in March 2014. In 1994, she established her own real estate company, which she later merged with Coldwell Banker The Real Estate Group in 2010. This partnership allows her to focus exclusively on real estate, leveraging the extensive resources of a large firm to better serve her clients.

Her commitment to helping families navigate their real estate decisions—whether buying or selling—remains her primary motivation. Outside of her professional life, she enjoys gardening, spending time with her horses, and cherishing moments with her daughters at their cottage on Clark Lake.
