About Hedley Karpas

Hedley Karpas relocated with his family from Pretoria, South Africa, to Houston, Texas, in 1980. He pursued his education at The University of Texas at Austin, where he majored in business management and became a member of the Sigma Alpha Mu fraternity. During his second year, he obtained his real estate license and began his career in residential real estate in Austin.

Upon returning to Houston, Hedley continued his focus on residential sales with a national real estate firm, consistently achieving recognition as a top producer. In the early 1990s, he became a principal at a boutique real estate firm in Houston. Within two years, he acquired his partners' shares, rebranded the company as Karpas Properties, and grew his sales team to over 60 full-time associates. By 2007, Karpas Properties was recognized as the fourth largest independent real estate brokerage in Houston by the Houston Business Journal.

In March 2008, Karpas Properties merged with Martha Turner Sotheby’s International Realty, allowing Hedley to return to his passion for directly assisting clients in buying and selling their homes. A dedicated professional, he has successfully completed hundreds of real estate transactions and is a proud member of the Martha Turner Sotheby’s International Realty Circle of Excellence and Hall of Fame. Whether collaborating with buyers on new construction or guiding sellers through the marketing of long-held family homes, Hedley exemplifies professionalism.

Hedley married Leslie Schechter Karpas, a native of Houston, in 1990, and they have two children. He has actively contributed to the community by chairing the Young Ambassadors Group and serving on the development board for SEARCH, an organization committed to ending homelessness. Additionally, he has held the position of vice president of The American Jewish Committee for two terms and, alongside Leslie, has co-chaired the AJC’s development committee. Together, they have also led events for DIFFA (Design Industry Fighting AIDS), The Nature Discovery Center, and the Jewish Federation's "Men’s Night Out." Hedley has served on the boards of the Bellaire Economic Council, Patrons for Bellaire Parks, and The Shlenker School.
