In January 1988 Melanson was flying his Cessna 210 down the Florida coast with the intention of purchasing property in West Palm Beach or Fort Lauderdale After admiring the waterways of Stuart from 7 000 feet and then viewing growing congestion in southern Florida he turned the plane around and landed in Stuart and purchased an oceanfront condominium on Hutchin¬son Island

In addition to real estate brokerage Joe is also commercial pilot with over 7000 hours with out accident or incident and owns an aerial photography company called Aerials Only He is recognized as a world class photographer and has worked for many Fortune 500 companies The company has had galleries in Boston Cape Cod and sold pictures in the Treasure Coast Mall He also takes commercial aerial photography for Developers Real Estate Firms Engineers Architects etc He has documented the growth of Martin and St Lucie Counties since 1988 This unique perspective gives him deep understanding of the communities and water ways and the advantages of Treasure Coast Living

Joe started his real estate career in 1986 and worked for Petron Properties on State St in Boston and researched land acquisitions In 1988 he started his own firm Land Plus Inc and specialized in water front homes and land on the South Coast of Massachusetts and Cape Cod
