Her assignments included Sembach, Germany; Cape Cod Air Station, Massachusetts; and Niagara Falls Air Base, New York. She concluded her service as the Law Office Superintendent at McGhee Tyson Air Base in Knoxville, Tennessee, retiring with honors.

Returning to Brevard to reconnect with family, Karla, along with her son Jonathan and daughter Kristina Marie, embraced the natural beauty of North Carolina.
