Originally from Southern California, Kelly has always embraced an active lifestyle, participating in soccer, cross country, and track during high school and college. This passion for the outdoors remains a significant part of life today. After receiving an Army ROTC scholarship, Kelly attended Dartmouth College in Hanover, NH, where a Bachelor’s degree in Biology and a secondary teaching certification were earned. For six years, Kelly taught science at both the high school and middle school levels, coached various sports, and led outdoor adventures in Connecticut and New York. Furthering her education, Kelly obtained a Master’s degree in Curriculum and Teaching from Columbia University while living in New York City.

In 2002, Kelly married Hank and relocated to New Mexico for his residency in emergency medicine at UNM. The couple fell in love with the Land of Enchantment and decided to make it their permanent home. They enjoy a variety of outdoor activities, including camping, birdwatching, hunting, soccer, and running. Their family has expanded to include two boys, two dogs, a cat, and a snake.
