About Lauren Fowlkes

A native Texan, Lauren has called Marfa home since 2011. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Texas at Austin and became a licensed Real Estate Salesperson in 2005. Her career began in residential real estate in Austin before she returned to San Antonio to collaborate with her mother in their family-owned Ready Mix Concrete business. During this time, she managed a concrete plant at the San Antonio Airport until the company was sold to Martin Marietta Materials in 2007, where she continued her career in sales.

In 2008, Lauren re-entered the real estate sector, focusing on the ownership and management of residential, commercial, and industrial properties. This role allowed her the flexibility to frequently visit her family ranch in Presidio County, where she embraced the high desert climate while working remotely. In 2009, her family business acquired a property in town, which became her first vacation rental, named The Austinite.

Motivated by a job opportunity she discovered in the Big Bend Sentinel classifieds, Lauren relocated to Marfa in 2011. In 2013, she established Far West Texas Realty from a desk at The Austinite, equipped with only a website and a laptop. Since then, her business has expanded to include a downtown office, a personal rental portfolio, long-term leasing services, and nearly 200 closed transactions.
