His oldest son, inspired by the events of September 11, 2001, enlisted in the United States Marine Corps at the age of 29 and has since made a distinguished career in the military, completing multiple tours in Iraq and Afghanistan.

As a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War (1968-1969), he was honored with a Bronze Star for his service. He holds deep respect for all current and former service members who have made sacrifices for the freedoms enjoyed by Americans today.
