About Mark Hessert

Mark, a native of Williamsport, Pennsylvania, the birthplace of the Little League World Series, cultivated a passion for team sports and coaching early in life. These foundational experiences instilled in him a commitment to service that has guided his professional journey.

After earning a bachelor's degree in health and physical education from East Stroudsburg University, Mark began his career as a cardiac rehabilitation specialist. In this role, he dedicated himself to helping patients regain their health and improve their quality of life.

Mark's enthusiasm for athletics led him to Florida, where he pursued a master’s degree in sports administration at St. Thomas University in Miami. This academic endeavor marked the beginning of a fulfilling career in development and fundraising within higher education. His first role as Executive Director of the Zip Athletic Club at the University of Akron showcased his commitment to excellence and service. However, it was the innovative growth of East Carolina University athletics that captured his interest.

During his 30 years as Associate Athletics Director and Associate Executive Director of the ECU Pirate Club, Mark played a pivotal role in consistently surpassing organizational benchmarks. His dedication to integrity, professionalism, and service significantly benefited the club's members and their families.

Mark and his wife, Cheri, also from Williamsport, have called Greenville home since 1991. They have raised a family deeply connected to ECU, with Cheri holding two degrees, including a master's in speech-language pathology. Their son, Logan, graduated with a degree in construction management and is now part of the Hudson Brothers Construction team. Logan and his wife, Amanda, a former first-grade teacher and ECU alum, have enriched Mark and Cheri’s lives with three grandchildren: Riley, Sallie Claire, and Jack. The Hessert family actively participates in Covenant Church.

Throughout his career, Mark has cherished the relationships he has built while serving families through the Pirate Club and other endeavors. He is now eager to apply the same level of service, loyalty, and transparency to assist the residents of eastern North Carolina in achieving their real estate goals.
