About Norman Block

Norman Block is a distinguished alumnus of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, holding three degrees from the institution. He earned his Bachelor of Arts in English in 1971, followed by an MBA and a Juris Doctorate in 1978, where he graduated at the top of his MBA class. With over four decades of experience in real estate, Norman has dedicated his career to the practice, ownership, and management of real estate brokerage firms.

Currently, he serves as the manager of Block & Associates Realty in Cary, North Carolina, a firm that specializes in listings, sales, rentals, and property management, handling more than 1,000 transactions annually. In addition to his management role, Norman has been involved in the development of single-family lots and townhome sites for residential builders.

In academia, Norman holds the position of Adjunct Professor at UNC’s Kenan-Flagler Business School, where he is also a Professor of the Practice in Real Estate. Alongside Bob Slater, he teaches a highly regarded real estate economics course for undergraduate seniors, as well as a short-mod MBA course focused on Real Estate Decisions. His teaching excellence was recognized in 2016 when he was named an MBA Teaching All-Star. Since 2018, he has also been an Adjunct Professor at Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business, where he continues to collaborate with Bob Slater in teaching MBA students.

Previously, Norman owned Norman Block Realtors in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, which he sold to Howard Perry & Walston in 1988. Following the sale, he took on the role of General Manager, overseeing more than 20 managers and expanding the firm from 187 to 518 agents across 11 sales offices. Under his leadership, the company achieved over a billion dollars in sales volume during his final two years.

Norman is an active member of The Shepherd’s Church and has previously participated in various community organizations, including Apex United Methodist Church, Calvary Chapel with Promise Keepers, the ALPHA Course, and Western Wake Crisis Ministries. He has served on local bank boards, various Chamber of Commerce and Country Club boards, and currently holds a position on the Board of Visitors at the Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center, along with other committees at UNC.

He is married to Billie Block, and together they have five children and six grandchildren. Colleagues recognize Norman for his exceptional skills in marketing and teaching. In addition to his brokerage practice, he has successfully marketed over 40 new home neighborhoods and frequently conducts educational sessions for the North Carolina Association of Realtors and other professional organizations.
