About Paul Skillman

Paul Skillman has dedicated a significant portion of his professional life to the real estate sector, but his journey encompasses much more than just property transactions.

Raised in the Mankato area of Minnesota, Paul spent his childhood by the lake, where summer days were filled with turtle-catching and jet skiing, much to the amusement of his neighbors.

He pursued his undergraduate studies at the University of St. Thomas, where he met his wife, Alison. Following graduation, the couple relocated to Beaver Creek, Colorado, where Paul immersed himself in resort property management. The opportunity to snowboard during lunch breaks was a notable highlight of this phase.

To advance his career in real estate, Paul enrolled at the University of Denver, earning both a Master’s in Real Estate and an MBA in Marketing. Shortly after completing his studies, he joined a team of experienced real estate developers. This dynamic group rapidly expanded, becoming one of the largest commercial development firms in the United States—until the market downturn in 2008 led to his layoff.

Faced with this setback, Paul pivoted toward entrepreneurship, taking the reins of a struggling 40-year-old business. His determination paid off; within two years, his company was recognized on the Inc. 5000 list of the fastest-growing companies in the nation. This challenging experience instilled in him invaluable lessons in humility, perseverance, and leadership—qualities that now shape his approach as a Realtor.

After eight years, Paul sold his business and returned to Minnesota with his family, ensuring that his son, Henrik, would have the same enriching experiences he cherished as a child.

Settling back into Minnesota, Paul and his family spent their first winter in a cozy cabin, where he focused on obtaining his real estate license. He was eager to leverage his life experiences for the benefit of his clients.

In his inaugural year as a licensed Realtor in Minnesota, Paul was honored with the “Rookie of the Year” award. By his third year, he achieved “Top Sales” at a previous brokerage and welcomed Alison to the team as his first hire.

Currently, Paul is instrumental in driving the expansion of True Real Estate in the Twin Cities. Founded by Jen True, the company is rooted in authenticity and integrity—principles that Paul embodies in every client interaction. Additionally, True Real Estate's local presence in Paul’s hometown aligns perfectly with his values.

Outside of his professional commitments, Paul enjoys spending quality time with his family in Deephaven, Minnesota. Whether he’s making cannonballs into Lake Minnetonka with Henrik, supporting Alison as she coaches their son’s soccer team, or planning their next travel adventure, Paul remains dedicated to both his family and his clients.

Hennepin County stands as Minnesota's economic powerhouse and most dynamic real estate market, anchored by Minneapolis and encompassing diverse communities from lakefront suburbs to emerging urban districts. With 6,278 actively licensed real estate agents serving the region, this market represents one of the Midwest's most competitive and sophisticated real estate ecosystems. The county's unique blend of Fortune 500 corporate headquarters, world-class healthcare systems, and prestigious educational institutions creates sustained demand across multiple property segments.

What makes Hennepin County particularly compelling is its resilience through economic cycles, driven by diversified employment in healthcare, technology, finance, and manufacturing. The market benefits from Minnesota's strong regulatory environment and the Twin Cities' reputation for livability, consistently ranking among the nation's top metropolitan areas for quality of life. This stability attracts both domestic and international investment, while the region's tech corridor continues expanding beyond traditional boundaries.

Major Hennepin County, Minnesota Real Estate Markets

Minneapolis dominates the urban core with its thriving downtown district, North Loop warehouse conversions, and the rapidly gentrifying Northeast neighborhoods. High-demand suburban markets include Minnetonka and Plymouth for executive housing, while Edina and Golden Valley command premium prices for their school districts and proximity to corporate centers. Lake Minnetonka communities like Wayzata and Orono represent the county's luxury segment, with waterfront properties often exceeding seven figures.

Emerging markets are reshaping traditional boundaries, particularly in Hopkins, St. Louis Park, and Richfield, where transit-oriented development and urban renewal projects are driving appreciation. Brooklyn Park and Brooklyn Center offer more affordable entry points while benefiting from infrastructure improvements and demographic shifts. The western suburbs of Maple Grove and Plymouth continue expanding with new construction, while inner-ring suburbs undergo strategic densification to meet changing housing preferences.

Market Dynamics and Geographic Complexity

Hennepin County's real estate landscape reflects dramatic geographic and economic diversity within a relatively compact area. Properties range from Minneapolis high-rise condominiums and historic Craftsman homes to sprawling executive estates and modern suburban developments. This complexity creates distinct micro-markets with varying price points, inventory levels, and buyer demographics, requiring deep local expertise to navigate effectively.

Seasonal patterns significantly impact market timing, with spring and summer driving peak activity, while winter months often favor serious buyers with less competition. The county's strong job market and population growth consistently outpace housing supply in desirable areas, creating ongoing inventory challenges. Interest rate sensitivity varies by segment, with luxury lake properties showing more resilience than entry-level suburban markets during economic uncertainty.
