About Robert Butler

The roots of this Polk County resident trace back to 1961, when Dean Butler acquired the Tryon drug store from retiring pharmacist Fred Owens. For four decades, he successfully operated Owen’s Pharmacy, becoming a well-known figure in the community.

After graduating from Tryon High School, he attended North Carolina State University and embarked on a career in land surveying in 1979. In 1987, he established Butler Associates, a land surveying firm that he led for over three decades.

He met his wife, Mary, during their high school years, and they married in 1980. Mary recently concluded her tenure as Director of School Nutrition Services at Polk County Schools. Together, they have three adult children—Lauren, Brett, and Bruce—who cherish returning to the picturesque landscapes of Polk County.

On January 1, 2019, he transitioned from his role as a business owner, selling Butler Associates to Joshua Edwards, a former employee. Eager to embrace this new phase of life, he remains committed to his community.

With 40 years of experience as a local surveyor, he possesses extensive knowledge of Polk County and its surroundings. He looks forward to helping others discover their ideal place within this vibrant community.
