As a veteran of the U.S. Navy, he has traveled extensively around the globe alongside his wife, Marie, who operates Wilcox World Travel and Tours. Together, they have two daughters: Diana, a business graduate from Appalachian State University, is a mother of three and co-owner of Newbridge Tire in Woodfin; Marisa, a graduate of Asheville-Buncombe Technical Community College with a degree in cosmetology, works at Tower Associates Inc. in Asheville and is also a proud mother.

Family is at the heart of his life, and he values the time spent with his wife, children, and grandchildren. An enthusiastic culinary hobbyist, he enjoys preparing visually appealing dishes and often finds joy in cooking outdoors on the grill or smoker. Gardening is another passion, allowing him to connect with nature.
