At the age of 26, this real estate professional made a pivotal decision to purchase his first home for just $250, a property burdened with back taxes. Recognizing his aptitude for hands-on work, he embraced the challenge of transforming this fixer-upper. This initial investment was not only a financial commitment but also a personal project that involved yard work, painting, and carpentry, utilizing his father's power tools to enhance the home’s character with gingerbread trim. With the support of friends, he successfully modernized the 150-year-old house, marking the beginning of a 38-year journey in real estate.

Having relocated to Moab in 1983, he has witnessed the town's economic fluctuations firsthand. After leaving his teaching position in Connecticut in 1976, he initially ventured west to ski at Alta and Snowbird, but what began as a one-year plan extended into nearly two decades. During the summers, he worked in Alaska and the Yukon Territory, honing his skills in bush cooking. A serendipitous moment while skiing in 1983 led him to Moab, where he sought answers to a whimsical question: “Where does the white go when the snow melts?”

Despite the local economy struggling at the time, with many homes for sale and residents leaving, he saw potential in the market. Undeterred by skepticism from friends, he continued to invest in properties, revitalizing them with fresh paint and landscaping. Within two years, he had assisted all ten of his closest friends in purchasing homes in Moab.

In 2009, leveraging his extensive experience in property renovation and investment, he obtained his real estate license. Today, he is a dedicated agent at Arches Real Estate Group, ready to guide clients through the possibilities of transforming their own fixer-uppers into dream homes.
