About Steven Barnes

With deep roots in the Fair Oaks and Orangevale communities, this individual is a proud fourth-generation resident whose family has been part of the area since 1910. He began his education at Earl Legette Elementary School in Fair Oaks, unknowingly befriending the brother of his future wife. His father worked as a meat cutter and manager for Lucky grocery stores, which led to various relocations, including a move to Lake Tahoe and later to Auburn, where he graduated from Placer High School. Eventually, the family settled in Orangevale when the opportunity arose.

He enlisted in the U.S. Navy, where his service took him to several countries, including England, Italy, Turkey, Greece, Israel, Singapore, and Spain. Notable experiences during his time in the Navy include navigating the Suez Canal and spending Christmas in Bethlehem. After completing boot camp, he was stationed aboard the USS Independence (CV 62) in Norfolk, Virginia. His deployment to the Mediterranean included participation in the “Battle of Grenada,” earning him the designation of “Veteran of Foreign Wars.” He is an active member of the Fair Oaks Chapter of the VFW Hall.

Upon completing his active duty, he returned home and joined the U.S. Naval Reserves. It was during this period that he reconnected with a childhood friend and met his sister, Sharon. The couple married a little over a year later and began their life together in Orangevale, purchasing their first home in Citrus Heights two years later, shortly before welcoming their daughter, Ashley.

Throughout his career, he has held various positions, including postal carrier, motorcycle repair technician, wine distributor, truck and equipment repair specialist, and printer. While working in the print industry, he prepared for his real estate exam. By then, the family had returned to Fair Oaks, making Ashley the fifth generation to reside there.

His enthusiasm for buying, selling, and restoring vehicles and dirt bikes has been a lifelong passion, which he has shared with Ashley, who took her first job at Kragen Auto Parts. Together, they have enjoyed dirt biking at Prairie City OHV Park and drag racing at Sacramento Raceway.

As a REALTOR with 18 years of experience, he serves as a “New Agent Mentor” at the Fair Oaks Lyon Real Estate Office. His strong negotiating skills stem from years of buying and selling vehicles. After nearly three decades in geriatric social work, he encouraged Sharon to pursue a career in real estate, where their combined expertise allows them to assist clients through even the most complex transactions.
