About Thomas Cure

Tom Cure, a passionate traveler and dedicated real estate professional, is known for his adventurous spirit and independence. Born into a large family as one of nine siblings, Tom's diverse background reflects his unique heritage—his father hails from Chile, while his mother is from Arkansas. Their paths crossed at the University of Oklahoma, leading to a vibrant family life. Tom and two of his siblings were born in Valencia, Venezuela, before relocating to the United States at the age of six. After spending a decade in South Florida, the Cure family settled in Waynesville, North Carolina, in 1990, where they have since embraced the beauty of Western North Carolina.

Tom's passion for travel ignited during his high school years when he attended a football (soccer) camp in England at 17. This experience paved the way for further explorations, including a memorable trip to Ireland, where he immersed himself in local culture, savoring Guinness and engaging in traditional Irish set dancing. His adventures continued with visits to Egypt and Israel, where he marveled at the Great Pyramids and the historic sites of Jerusalem. A trip to Chile in 2001 deepened his understanding of his heritage, while subsequent travels to Belize allowed him to explore the Blue Hole and swim with sharks. Tom firmly believes that true exploration comes from cultural immersion, a philosophy that guided him to France for a friend's wedding.

After completing an Associate degree and briefly pursuing a Bachelor's at UNC-Asheville, Tom embarked on a transformative journey in April 2005 by thru-hiking the Appalachian Trail. Covering 2,174 miles across 14 states, he relished the experience, hiking 1,300 miles into Pennsylvania. This adventure not only allowed him to appreciate the heart of America but also led to lasting friendships along the way. The call of Katahdin, the northern terminus of the trail, remains a whisper in his heart.

Despite his extensive travels, Tom found himself settling down, especially after his girlfriend, Shannon, encouraged him to embark on new adventures together. Their first trip was a short-term mission to India, where they worked with an orphanage and engaged with local communities. It was during this trip that Tom proposed to Shannon at the Taj Mahal, a moment that took her completely by surprise.

Tom's entrepreneurial spirit was nurtured from a young age by his mother, Jonnie Cure, the owner and broker of Southern Exposure Realty. After graduating high school, he and his brother Jorge launched Two Brothers Pizza, defying the trend of young people leaving their hometown for larger cities. They also owned a local bar before Tom turned his attention to the construction industry, where he built a successful painting business.

Now, as a third-generation real estate agent, Tom views real estate as another opportunity to connect with people and forge lasting relationships. With a deep-rooted understanding of the market, he has joined Jackie’s team at LandCrazy.com, drawn by her forward-thinking leadership. Tom invites you to join him on a journey through the mountains to discover your dream property. See you on the trails!

Major Buncombe County, North Carolina Real Estate Markets

Asheville dominates the county's real estate landscape, serving as the cultural and economic hub with its renowned downtown arts district, craft brewery scene, and proximity to outdoor recreation. The city's neighborhoods range from historic Montford and Grove Park to emerging areas like the River Arts District, each offering distinct character and price points. Surrounding Asheville, communities like Black Mountain, Weaverville, and Swannanoa provide more affordable alternatives while maintaining easy access to urban amenities.

The western portions of the county, including areas near the Blue Ridge Parkway and Pisgah National Forest, command premium prices for their mountain views and privacy. These regions attract luxury buyers seeking second homes or primary residences with acreage, while the eastern communities like Fairview and Fletcher appeal to families wanting newer construction and excellent schools within commuting distance to Asheville's employment centers.

Market Dynamics and Geographic Complexity

Buncombe County's real estate market operates across dramatically different price tiers and buyer demographics, from first-time homebuyers in Candler and Leicester to million-dollar luxury properties in Bent Creek and Biltmore Forest. The market experiences seasonal fluctuations, with peak activity during spring and fall when the mountains showcase their natural beauty, making properties particularly appealing to out-of-state buyers relocating from metropolitan areas.

Inventory challenges persist across most price ranges, with new construction struggling to keep pace with demand, particularly in the $300,000 to $600,000 range that appeals to the growing population of remote workers. The county's topography creates unique zoning and development constraints, making buildable lots increasingly valuable and driving creative solutions like tiny home communities and mixed-use developments.
