About William Byrne

Bill Byrne relocated to Asheville from San Francisco in 1990, driven by a vision to establish a fine dining restaurant in the historic Pack Square area. At the time, many viewed his ambition as impractical, as numerous buildings were vacant and storefronts remained boarded up throughout downtown. However, the determination exhibited by entrepreneurs like Bill, alongside developers such as Robert Armstrong of Haywood Park, played a pivotal role in revitalizing the area, as noted by the Asheville Citizen-Times on September 6, 2009.

After years of dedication, marked by 80-hour workweeks, Bill successfully sold his restaurant in 1998 and transitioned into a career in real estate as both an investor and broker. He applies the same focus and commitment that defined his restaurant business to his real estate practice. Understanding that homeownership is a significant aspiration for many, Bill is dedicated to guiding his clients through every phase of the buying or selling process, consistently exceeding their expectations with his extensive local knowledge and deep-rooted community ties.

Bill shares his life with his high school sweetheart, Shelagh, and they have two sons, aged 20 and 24. He is currently in his second three-year term at Jubilee Community Church and serves on the board of Daoist Traditions College of Chinese Medicine. His community involvement extends to various roles, including an appointment by the City Council to the Downtown Commission, chairing the Bele Chere festival—one of the largest free outdoor music festivals in the Southeast—and mentoring students in reading recovery programs. He has also coached multiple sports for city leagues and the YMCA and remains an active member of Rotary International, currently chairing the club's 501(c)(3) Foundation, which supports both local and international initiatives.

An outdoor enthusiast, Bill enjoys spending his free time running, mountain biking, golfing, and camping with his family.

Major Buncombe County, North Carolina Real Estate Markets

Asheville dominates the county's real estate landscape, serving as the cultural and economic hub with its renowned downtown arts district, craft brewery scene, and proximity to outdoor recreation. The city's neighborhoods range from historic Montford and Grove Park to emerging areas like the River Arts District, each offering distinct character and price points. Surrounding Asheville, communities like Black Mountain, Weaverville, and Swannanoa provide more affordable alternatives while maintaining easy access to urban amenities.

The western portions of the county, including areas near the Blue Ridge Parkway and Pisgah National Forest, command premium prices for their mountain views and privacy. These regions attract luxury buyers seeking second homes or primary residences with acreage, while the eastern communities like Fairview and Fletcher appeal to families wanting newer construction and excellent schools within commuting distance to Asheville's employment centers.

Market Dynamics and Geographic Complexity

Buncombe County's real estate market operates across dramatically different price tiers and buyer demographics, from first-time homebuyers in Candler and Leicester to million-dollar luxury properties in Bent Creek and Biltmore Forest. The market experiences seasonal fluctuations, with peak activity during spring and fall when the mountains showcase their natural beauty, making properties particularly appealing to out-of-state buyers relocating from metropolitan areas.

Inventory challenges persist across most price ranges, with new construction struggling to keep pace with demand, particularly in the $300,000 to $600,000 range that appeals to the growing population of remote workers. The county's topography creates unique zoning and development constraints, making buildable lots increasingly valuable and driving creative solutions like tiny home communities and mixed-use developments.
